Space Jam Starting Lineup was a mobile tabletop AR experience available at AT&T retail stores to promote the release of “Space Jam: A New Legacy”. Users entered their height and hometown, then chose a jersey number and took a selfie to dynamically populate an AR jumbotron with their “player stats.” Through AR, users could watch a 3D Bugs Bunny descend from the floating jumbotron and introduce the user as a member of the Tune Squad starting lineup (using a mixture of pre-recorded dialogue and artificially generated voice lines).
Users could also opt to receive a shareable video of Bugs’ introduction via email or text, which featured a fully-rendered 3D environment and cameos from other Looney Tunes characters.
Responsibilities:
- Designed and constructed 3D environment for shareable video, including terrain, props, virtual crowd, skybox, materials, lights, and post processing effects
- Implemented 3D assets from animation studio within Unity to ensure error-free synced animation playback and accurate materials
- Animated camera movements and transitions for shareable video via Unity’s animation timeline, effectively assembling the “edit” that gets sent to users
- Designed and animated particle simulations and VFX to play in both the live AR experience and recorded shareable video
- Animated corner pin data for jumbotron in the shareable video so that user stats can be accurately mapped to the screen
- Assisted with UI design for the mobile AR devices
